Ok. I have seen a lot over the years with programming mistakes etc. for Windows but this one I tried now to solve for several hours and well. The workaround is somewhat strange.
Can’t even call it a proper workaround either since you lose some “functionality” but let’s hope MS fixes it real soon.
This only happens when UAC is turned on and you are local admin on the computer. If any is false then it works like a charm like it did in Windows 7 and previous.
You can always debate on whether to be local admin or not but for me as administrator and UAC turned on I feel pretty secure anyway and it simplifies my day.
Anyway, to the problem that my drive mappings doesn’t appear in Windows. They worked perfectly on Windows 7 and previous.
If you just remove the check in the Reconnect checkbox and save it.
Wait for replication and run gpupdate
Log out and back in and then you should be able to see your drives again as in previous Windows versions.
Now how this can happen and relate to UAC is for me a mystery but it works and I have confirmed it many times on both mine and other computers.
I really hope a patch comes pretty soon as I do want to have reconnect on my drives but let’s wait and see.
Please give me your comments and/or suggestions on my post/blog. I would really appreciate it.
